1. Raccoon Lake
Raccoon Lake, also known as Cecil M. Harden Lake, may not be the largest or deepest lake in Indiana, but it’s one of the most beautiful. Located just a couple of miles from Reeder-Trausch Marine, Raccoon Lake is surrounded by lush forests and dramatic rock outcroppings, offering endless opportunities for exploration and outdoor fun.
Whether you're fishing, waterskiing, swimming, or just enjoying a day out on the lake, Raccoon Lake is an excellent option for nature lovers. It's also a stop on the Indiana Birding Trail.
2. Lake Wawasee
As the state's largest natural body of water, Lake Wawasee is one of the top Indiana lakes for water sports. With 25 miles of shoreline, you'll also find accommodations on or near the water and restaurants that are easily accessible by boat.
In the summer, boaters across the state head to Lake Wawasee to socialize on the sandbar. You can also fish, water ski, or just sit back and relax on the deck of a comfortable pontoon boat throughout the season.
3. Lake Monroe
Lake Monroe can be found just south of Bloomington. It's considered one of the best fishing and boating destinations in Indiana thanks in part to its convenient location but also because of the lake's natural beauty and undisturbed forests surrounding it.
You can access Lake Monroe via one of nine public boat launches. Once you're out on the water, you'll find many opportunities not just for fishing and watersports but also camping along the shoreline. Lake Monroe is also home to an abundance of fish.
4. Lake Maxinkuckee
As the second-largest lake in Indiana, Lake Maxinkuckee is a popular boating destination for fishing enthusiasts. It's among the best Walleye lakes in Indiana and offers plenty of opportunities to get lines in the water.
Lake Maxinkuckee is also great for water skiing, tubing, and wakeboarding. Just watch for the cruise ships that dot the lake during the summer, offering tourists a way to enjoy its beauty without getting up close and personal.
5. Lake Tippecanoe
Lake Tippecanoe is 123 ft deep at its lowest point, making it the deepest lake in the state. The depth of this lake makes it perfect for wakeboarding, which requires more depth than other watersports. You'll have no problem creating a large wake without worrying about catching the bottom.
You'll also find many sizeable bottom-feeding fish in Lake Tippecanoe. At night, spear fishermen take to the lake, using specialized equipment to catch fish near the bottom.
